5 long years
Sunday, March 16th, 2008The War in Iraq has reached the 5 year mark. Scarily enough we are also coming close to having lost 4,ooo brothers and sisters in this mess! The American casualty rate is above 30,000! We all know military victory was achieved a long, long time ago. Political progress has made little progress within the country, and there are plenty of corporations getting richer and richer as the war drags on. What will be the long term ramifications in this country? One positive effort is that groups like IAVA are fighting on the home front to get a new GI Bill passed. When our fellow citizens have put life and limb on the line because our President has called on them to fight, well the U.S. government should do the outmost in making sure they are given the opportunities to succeed in the country they so unselfishly served.
Rocket fuel
Wednesday, February 13th, 2008Today the media was focused on the congressional hearing about whether Clemens had performance enhancing drugs voluntarily injected into his tuckus. Having felt scorned by another former Red Sox player who went on to great glory for the hated Yankees – a demon in me liked watching Roger squirm. I do think steroids and HGH gave his career a second wind. My gut instinct was that he was doing better, and just was afraid to question why. His trainer was certified by MBL, and now the league is trying to clean up the mess they had turned a blind eye on. But when push comes to shove, not wanting Roger to cry, but whether or not he allowed himself to be enhanced – his records and glories were built on something beyond his natural abilities. Of course, I sucked at the Babe Ruth league level – his 20-K games for the Sox alone would get my vote for the Hall of Fame and I can’t stand the guy. Then again I think Pete Rose should be inducted too.

Friday, November 2nd, 2007“Nobody Expects the Spanish Inquistion!” How easily we forget though. Do Senators Schumer and Feinstein understand that during the Spanish Inquisition both Jews as well as Muslims were waterboarded? That means the Senators would have been considered targets of the Church, who only wanted to save their souls, and make sure their conversions were pure. But today they signaled that they would vote for an Attorney General who can’t say that this action is torture. Well I hope Mukasey can tell the difference between cremation when it is done to a dead body rather than a live one, without having some briefing from the Prophet in Chief.
